Subject: Letter of Recommendation for John Page of Reliable Marine Electric, Inc.

To Whom It May Concern:

I first met John Page in December 1999 when Bazley Investments sent me to San Diego to supervise the purchase and transport of a 96' Sportfisherman to the Mediterranean.

Before the yacht left California, we carried out a three month refit which included the conversion of the existing US electrical system to the European 50HZ, 220V system. We were apprehensive about finding a serious electrical engineer with experience in this type of work. John came highly recommended and his confidence and knowledge proved to be of great value as the project progressed. There were no drawings of the boat's technical systems, but he and his team managed to overcome all the obstacles that presented themselves as well as upgrade the electrical system to achieve better performance. He later travelled to France to terminate his work once the new interior had been completed.

Overall, John is a very conscientious and thorough engineer who undertakes his job with great efficiency and responsibility. Since the completion of this project, we have kept in contact with John and used his consultancy services for other yachts owned by Bazley Investments. We would not hesitate to recommend his company for any type of project be it refit work or new builds.
Please don't hesitate to contact me should you require additional information. My Phone number in France is +33 619 92 06 77.

Sincerely,

I am the delighted owner (6 years) of a 1982 Californian 42 LRC twin-diesel trawler, CAPTIVATE, that has been carefully and lovingly restored / updated over the years of my ownership. It is a fabulous coastal / islands cruiser and a roomy and comfortable liveaboard. It made a flawless 14 day (250 operating hours / 1300 nautical miles) West Coast passage from San Diego to Puget Sound in October 2000 in conjunction with a Navy permanent change-of-station move and has performly consistently well in predicted log (precision navigation) competition in both Southern California and in the Pacific Northwest, including being the 'winning yacht' in the North American
Invitational championship in San Diego in 1998.

My efforts in the renovation and updating of CAPTIVATE were consistently focused on improving reliability, safety, and performance. A significant part of those efforts - a good part of a year's work of work - was in the professional reengineering and purchase / installation of completely new AC and DC electrical systems to replace the jumble of outdated, confusing, and unreliable electrical systems which I inherited from the previous owners. John Page of Reliable Marine Electric of San Diego was 'the brains and the brawn' in a fabulously successful transformation of the electrical systems. Work included new and separate starting batteries for the twin Caterpillar diesel main engines and the Westerbeke diesel generator; alternators replacement; a charger dedicated to charging of starting batteries;
paralleling circuits (to the house battery bank) to provide redundancy in
starting for each of the 3 diesels; a new 800Ah 12V house bank and
associated Trace 2500W/120 amp inverter/charger; rewired AC circuits; a dedicated inverter AC electrical subpanel; a Link 20 multifunction battery moniting system; and detailed schematics of the new systems on completion of the job.

The size and the complexity of the electrical systems work and the fact that extensive rework of previous circuits and systems was required resulted in the expected number of questions and quirks in the system. Both local and then remote (from Puget Sound), John provided analysis and recommendations to me as the owner supporting my own troubleshooting and COMPLETE resolution of all issues. He volunteered a trip to Puget Sound to take care of remaining issues that were resolved by me with John's assistance from afar. The support was FABULOUS. The electrical systems have performed just as capably and just as reliably as they were intended to do. Work well done;
investment well made; MAJOR improvement in enjoyment and operation from the distracting and confounding problems of the old system.

My thanks go to John and his crew at Reliable Marine Electric. My
association with them was so good in CAPTIVATE, before and after I left San Diego, that I have included John in consultation on my current purchase of a 'new' (1970) 72' pilothouse trawler intended for permanent liveaboard use and future extended cruising.
